Susan Plimpton is a retired marketing executive with experience at General Mills, Green Giant, Pillsbury and American Express Financial. She has deep experience with nonprofit organizations focused on international education, exchange and development, with a particular interest in the education and economic empowerment of women and girls in the developing world. Plimpton served on the board of World Learning (parent of SIT Study Abroad) for 12 years serving as its chair for 3 years. In 2012 she was elected Chair Emerita. She has has also served on the boards of Freedom from Hunger and the MN International Center. Plimpton is currently involved with Friends of Ngong Road (education of children of HIV positive parents living in a slum in Nairobi), MinnPost, and the Neuroscience Development Advisory Committee of the University of MN Medical School. Married to a retired physician and with two adult sons, Plimpton enjoys international travel, music, theater, reading and walking.
Plimpton has a BA degree in history from Wellesley College, an MA in non profit management from SIT’s Graduate Institute, and an MBA with Honors from Harvard Business School
